Kabir Dohe #1

Translation in English

Neither dies the illusion nor the mind, only body dies. Neither hope nor greediness dies, said the Kabir das.

Detailed Explanation in English

The physical body takes birth, lives on the earth, and dies at the end. In this Doha, Kabir refers Maya as the external world, Mann as the mind, Sharir as the living body or living person. He insists on observing the inner self rather than looking outside into the external world.  If we always look outside for happiness, then we will never be satisfied in this world. It does not matter how many times we take rebirths; we will still be unhappy. On the contrary, if we try to search for happiness within ourselves, then we will be happy. The peace of the mind should not depend on the worldly affairs. However, it entirely depends on us whether we want to be completely in charge of our lives, or we want to be in control of external world by getting influence by external worldly factors.

Introduction about Kabir Das

Kabir Das was a 15th century Indian mystic poet and great saint of India, who played crucial role in India’s Bhakti Movement. He always believed that God is one and people just worship Him with different names. He had written his poems primarily in Hindi language with a mix of Avadhi, Braj, and Bhojpuri languages.

Kabir believed that Truth lies within a person who is on the path of righteousness and is passively detached from the affairs of the world. To find the Truth, one must drop his/her ego.

Sant Kabir ke dohe are full of meaning and teachings. These Dohas are two-line verses. But in just two lines, Kabir was able to reveal Love, Philosophy and his unbending love for the Supreme and that’s the beauty of these dohas.
