Shiva Panchakshara Stotram (शिव पञ्चाक्षर स्तोत्रम्

 

नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनाय,
भस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय ।
नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बराय,
तस्मै न काराय नमः शिवाय ॥१॥

 

मन्दाकिनी सलिलचन्दन चर्चिताय,
नन्दीश्वर प्रमथनाथ महेश्वराय ।
मन्दारपुष्प बहुपुष्प सुपूजिताय,
तस्मै म काराय नमः शिवाय ॥२॥

 

शिवाय गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द,
सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय ।
श्रीनीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय,
तस्मै शि काराय नमः शिवाय ॥३॥

 

वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भवगौतमार्य,
मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चितशेखराय।
चन्द्रार्क वैश्वानरलोचनाय,
तस्मै व काराय नमः शिवाय ॥४॥

 

यक्षस्वरूपाय जटाधराय,
पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय ।
दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय,
तस्मै य काराय नमः शिवाय ॥५॥

 

पञ्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ ।
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥६॥

 

Translation of Shiva Panchakshara Stotram- 

 

नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनाय,
भस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय ।
नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बराय,
तस्मै न काराय नमः शिवाय ॥१॥

 

Meaning: 

One who wears Garland of Snakes (नागेन्द्रहाराय), who has Three Eyes (त्रिलोचनाय), whose body is smeared with Sacred  Ashes (भस्माङ्गरागाय),  who is the Great Lord (महेश्वराय), who is Eternal (नित्याय), who is Pure (शुद्धाय) , who has the Four Directions as His Clothes (दिगम्बराय), Salutations (नमः) to that Shiva (शिवाय) , who is represented by the syllable “na” (न).

 

The first syllable of the Panchakshara Mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".
 


मन्दाकिनी सलिलचन्दन चर्चिताय,
नन्दीश्वर प्रमथनाथ महेश्वराय ।
मन्दारपुष्प बहुपुष्प सुपूजिताय,
तस्मै म काराय नमः शिवाय ॥२॥

 

Meaning: 

One who is worshipped with the water of river Mandakini (मन्दाकिनी सलिल) ,whose body is smeared with Sandal paste (चन्दन चर्चिताय),  who is the Lord of Nandi (नन्दीश्वर), who is the Lord of Ghosts & Goblins (प्रमथनाथ), who is the Great Lord (महेश्वराय), who is worshipped with Mandaar and many other flowers (मन्दारपुष्प बहुपुष्प सुपूजिताय), Salutations (नमः) to that Shiva (शिवाय) , who is represented by the syllable “ma” (म).

 

The second syllable of the Panchakshara Mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".



शिवाय गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द,
सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय ।
श्रीनीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय,
तस्मै शि काराय नमः शिवाय ॥३॥

 

Meaning: 

One who is Lord Shiva (शिवाय) ,who is like the Sun causing the Lotus-Face of Gauri to Blossom (गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द सूर्याय), who is the Destroyer of the Sacrifice of Daksha (दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय), who has a Blue Throat (श्रीनीलकण्ठाय) and has a Bull as His Emblem (वृषध्वजाय), Salutations (नमः) to that Shiva (शिवाय) , who is represented by the syllable “shi” (शि).

 

The third syllable of the Panchakshara Mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".

 


वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भवगौतमार्य,
मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चितशेखराय।
चन्द्रार्क वैश्वानरलोचनाय,
तस्मै व काराय नमः शिवाय ॥४॥

 

Meaning: 

One who is worshipped by respected Sages like Vashistha, Pot-Born sage Agastya, Gautama and by the Gods (वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भवगौतमार्य,  मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चित), who is the Crown of the Universe (शेखराय), who has the moon, sun (चन्द्रार्क) and fire (वैश्वानर) as his three eyes (लोचनाय), Salutations (नमः) to that Shiva (शिवाय) , who is represented by the syllable “va” (व).

 

The fourth syllable of the Panchakshara Mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".

 


यक्षस्वरूपाय जटाधराय,
पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय ।
दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय,
तस्मै य काराय नमः शिवाय ॥५॥

 

Meaning: 

One who assumed the incarnation of Yaksha (यक्षस्वरूपाय), Who bears the Matted Hairs (जटाधराय), who has the Trident in His Hand (पिनाकहस्ताय) and Who is Eternal (सनातनाय), who is Divine (दिव्याय), who is Heavenly (देवाय), who has the Four Directions as His Clothes (दिगम्बराय), Salutations (नमः) to that Shiva (शिवाय) , who is represented by the syllable “ya” (य).

 

The fifth syllable of the Panchakshara Mantra "Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya".

 


पञ्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ ।
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥६॥

 

Meaning: 

One who recites this Panchakshara (पञ्चाक्षरमिदं) near Shiva (पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ), will attain the abode of Shiva (शिवलोकमवाप्नोति) and enjoy bliss (शिवेन सह मोदते).
